Hamburg/Ekaterinburg, 16 July 2019. For Travel Retail Domodedovo (TRD), a joint venture between Gebr. Heinemann and its local partner Greenway, all signs for its arrival business are pointing to growth: TRD just opened a 120 sqm arrival shop at Ekaterinburg International Airport Koltsovo. The new shop is following the recent openings of arrival shops in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Excellent basis for further turnover growth
“We are very proud to partner with Koltsovo Airport to extend our business and launch the new arrival concept together. This is a great confirmation of our entrepreneurial commitment at the airport and an excellent basis for further turnover growth. Extending our business with arrival shops gives us the opportunity to serve all arriving passengers and thus reach out to customers in a completely different way,” says Sergey Govorushko, General Manager at Travel Retail Domodedovo.
Convenient extension of the retail experience
Arrival shops give passengers the opportunity to travel light on departure, but buy big upon their arrival. It is a last minute chance to buy gifts for their beloved ones at home as well as to purchase international branded Duty Free goods at attractive prices.
Russian citizens account for around 90 percent of passengers at Ekaterinburg International Airport Koltsovo. Other nationalities include Europeans and Asians, with a significant increase of passengers from China over the past years.
The arrival shop is located at the airport’s arrival level of the international terminal behind passport control. The shop offers passengers a comprehensive range of local and international products from the assortment categories of spirits, perfume and cosmetics, confectionery and toys. A special focus is put on travel exclusives, price offers and a special gifting concept.
Gebr. Heinemann sees great potential in Arrival Duty Free in Russia
Since its introduction, the Arrival Duty Free business in Russia is an important market for Gebr. Heinemann and a vital part of the company’s growth strategy. Since April 2019, the company’s joint venture IDF is operating arrival shops in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport in terminal D and terminal E. “We are currently investing heavily in the arrival business, consolidating our position in the region. We are very satisfied with the results so far and will further strengthen our commitment here,” says Oleg Zhytomyrsky, Director Sales Eastern Europe & Central Asia at Gebr. Heinemann. The company is expecting to open arrival shops by the end of 2020 in all Russian airports where Gebr. Heinemann already has a presence through its partnerships (for example in Samara, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk). Oleg Zhytomyrsky adds: “Additionally, all airports and sea ports where the new Russian legislation allows Arrival Duty Free are generally of vital interest to us.”
