For people and planet

Our global goals

Sustainable management is part of the DNA of the family business Gebr. Heinemann. We know that our activities as a globally active Travel Retailer can bring meaningful change towards a sustainable future. It was therefore a logical consequence that we joined the UNGC, the largest and most important initiative for responsible corporate leadership worldwide, in 2018.

Based on the ten principles of the UNGC as well as our Code of Ethics and the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals, we have defined the framework of our sustainability strategy and developed our four fields of action. This provides our global business with a universal framework for sustainability. The UNGC's ten principles on human rights, labour standards, environment and anti-corruption have thus become an official part of Gebr. Heinemann´s CR strategy.

Gebr. Heinemann commits to climate protection

The latest climate science sends a clear warning that we must dramatically curb temperature rise to avoid the impacts of climate change. Gebr. Heinemann therefore joined the "Science Based Targets initiative" (SBTi). The SBTi is a partnership between multiple organizations and drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling organizations to set science-based emissions reduction targets. In alignment with SBTi we at Gebr. Heinemann have committed us to set near- and long-term company-wide emission reductions. In doing so, we are committing ourselves to the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement and intend to further develop our own climate protection strategy accordingly.

Work in Associations

At Gebr. Heinemann, memberships in national and international interest groups and the commitment to selected initiatives stand for the ability to contribute one's own competences, standpoints and relevant topics to the discussion in the industry and beyond. At the same time, they offer an indirect lever for achieving sustainable development goals. As a long-standing member of the Federal Association of the German Air Transport Industry (BDL), for example, we are committed to improving energy efficiency and climate protection in the aviation industry. As a member of the European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC), Gebr. Heinemann is committed to combating human rights violations in the cultivation of tobacco or cocoa, among other things.
