Trainee Programme: Central Areas
| This 18-month trainee programme prepares you thoroughly for a management level career in our family-run company in Hamburg. You may then find yourself working in the field of sales or purchasing. The programme introduces you to a range of functional and business areas; you will also become familiar with our logistics centre in Allermöhe and one of our airport sites. The training period concludes with a posting to a customer company abroad. As a trainee, you will apply the skills you are learning to real-life situations from day one; you will be working as part of the team in which you carry out your training. You become familiar with the structures and relationships within the company as you undergo intensive preparation for practical application. The Gebr. Heinemann trainee programme is modular in structure, and comprises four phases:
I. Basic training
Wherever possible, we will aim to orientate course content around your own strengths and skills as well as the company’s present requirements.
|
| During the first few days, we start by welcoming you to the company!
You will meet the managers and your fellow trainees, and various company departments will introduce you to the world of Gebr. Heinemann. You will also get to know your mentor, the person who will guide you through the next 18 months.
|
| For the first six months, you will learn about our basic business areas: distribution, purchasing, logistics and retail. You will also have the chance to familiarise yourself with another area of your choice (e.g. human resources, finance or IT).
From the start, you will play a full part in day-to-day business activities: you will be assigned initial projects, and manage these independently. During this induction period, you will work with other departments from an early stage, and soon find yourself acting as a point of contact for colleagues and customers. In the process, you will gain a detailed overview of the various fields of responsibility and come to understand the process flows, interfaces and characteristics of the company. At the end of the basic training period, we will hold initial orientation meetings with you. The point of these sessions is to agree which of the business areas you have so far encountered most closely corresponds to your personal strengths and interests, and is therefore likely to be suitable as your future field of application.
|
II. Advanced level one (3 months)
| During advanced level one, you will be assigned to your future business area, where you will apply the specialist knowledge you have obtained to real-life situations and broaden your skills base.
During this phase, you will have the chance to forge closer relationships with fellow trainees on the Retail Management Airport programme, and work with them on an inter-departmental project. As you become familiar with new working methods and learn how to generate synergy, you will benefit from regular opportunities to exchange ideas. Finally you will present your results to the executive board.
|
III. Advanced level two (approx. 6 months)
| The structure and the timing of both the second advanced level (III) and the preparation phase for your destination post (IV) will be defined in agreement with you.
Over these six months, you will provide support to your future business area as well as one of our customers abroad. You will develop your personal strengths and take personal responsibility for tasks.
|
IV. Preparation for destination post (approx. 3 months)
| In the final phase of your trainee programme, we will hold personal destination meetings with you to identify your specialist and individual strengths and coordinate these with current company requirements.
Having decided on your future field of application, you will undergo intensive preparation to assume your role at Gebr. Heinemann. When you have completed the trainee course, you will take up your position as a junior manager in one of our headquarter divisions. Gebr. Heinemann will make sure you have various opportunities to develop your career.
|
| Throughout the trainee programme, a wealth of advice and suggestions on personal and job-specific development will be extended to you from human resources staff, your mentor and the contact persons in the various departments. Individual guidance is contained in an induction plan that defines your learning objectives; you will formulate the plan together with staff in various departments. Your strengths and interests will be pinpointed along with your personal achievements during the programme in regular feedback sessions with the departments and personnel development officers.
Training courses and seminars tailored to your chosen destination post will be offered at all stages of the trainee programme. For example, you may be encouraged to join courses focusing on project management, leadership, products or EDP.
